Montclair is a township located in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It is situated about 12 miles west of New York City and is part of the New York metropolitan area. History
Montclair was first settled by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans, who were later displaced by Dutch and English settlers in the 17th century. The area was originally known as Cranetown due to the large number of cranes that inhabited the region. In 1868, Montclair was officially incorporated as a township.

Montclair covers a total area of approximately 6.3 square miles. It is bordered by the municipalities of Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove, Verona, and West Orange. The township is characterized by its hilly terrain, with the Watchung Mountains running through the western part of the town.
