Montrose is a city located in Montrose County, Colorado, United States. It is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Montrose is known as the "Gateway to the Black Canyon" due to its proximity to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

History

Montrose was founded in 1882 and incorporated as a town in the same year. It became a city in 1901. The city was named after Sir Walter Scott's novel A Legend of Montrose. The area was originally inhabited by the Ute people before European settlers arrived.
