Multiplication

Multiplication (/ˌmʌltɪplɪˈkeɪʃən/) is one of the four basic operations in arithmetic, along with addition, subtraction, and division. It is the mathematical operation of scaling one number by another.

Etymology

The term "multiplication" comes from the Latin word multiplicatio, which means "increase" or "growth". It was first used in English in the late 14th century.
