Nasi goreng pattaya

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Nasi Goreng Pattaya is a popular Malaysian and Singaporean dish, derived from Indonesian fried rice. The dish is named after Pattaya, a popular beach resort destination in Thailand, although it is not a Thai dish.

Overview

Nasi Goreng Pattaya, or simply Pattaya Fried Rice, is a Malaysian dish made by covering or wrapping chicken fried rice, in thin fried egg or omelette. It is often served with chili sauce, cucumber, and/or keropok (deep fried crackers). The name 'Pattaya' derives from the Thai resort city, suggesting a Thai origin, however, the dish is unknown in Thailand.

Preparation

The dish begins with the preparation of the fried rice, typically cooked with cubed chicken, shrimp or crab meat. This is then covered with a thin sheet of fried egg or omelette. Sometimes, the fried rice is wrapped inside a thin sheet of omelette, resembling a package or envelope. This is then typically garnished with tomato and cucumber slices, and served with a side of chili sauce and keropok.

Variations

There are several variations of Nasi Goreng Pattaya, including those that use different types of meat, or vegetarian versions. Some versions may also include additional ingredients such as green peas, carrots, onions, and others. The dish is also similar to Omurice, a similar dish from Japanese cuisine.
