Ned Lamont
Ned Lamont is an American businessman and politician serving as the 89th Governor of Connecticut, a position he has held since January 9, 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, Lamont first gained national attention during his 2006 U.S. Senate campaign, where he defeated incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary, though he ultimately lost in the general election when Lieberman ran as an independent candidate.
Early Life and Education
Ned Lamont was born on January 3, 1954, in Washington, D.C. He is a descendant of Thomas W. Lamont, a partner of the J.P. Morgan & Co. banking firm. Lamont graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 1976. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management in 1980.
Business Career
Before entering politics, Lamont had a successful career in the telecommunications industry. In 1984, he founded Lamont Digital Systems, which provided cable television services to colleges and universities. The company, known for its Campus Televideo service, became a leader in its niche market.

Lamont's political career began with his service on the Greenwich Board of Selectmen. He also served as a member of the Connecticut State Investment Advisory Council.
2006 U.S. Senate Campaign
Lamont rose to prominence in 2006 when he challenged incumbent U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman for the Democratic nomination. Lamont's campaign, which focused on opposition to the Iraq War, resonated with many Democratic voters, leading to his victory in the primary. However, Lieberman ran as an independent in the general election and retained his seat.
Governor of Connecticut
Ned Lamont ran for Governor of Connecticut in 2010 but was defeated in the Democratic primary. He made a successful bid for the governorship in 2018, defeating Republican nominee Bob Stefanowski. As governor, Lamont has focused on fiscal reforms, education, and healthcare. He has also been an advocate for the legalization of recreational marijuana and the implementation of electronic tolling on Connecticut highways.
Personal Life
Ned Lamont is married to Annie Huntress Lamont, a venture capitalist. The couple has three children. Lamont is also known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in education and healthcare.
