Niles is a city located in Cook County, in the state of Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago, situated approximately 15 miles northwest of the city's downtown area.
History
Niles was incorporated in 1899. The origin of the name "Niles" is not definitively known, but it is believed to be named after Niles, Michigan, or possibly after Hezekiah Niles, the editor of Niles' Weekly Register, a Baltimore newspaper.

Notable Landmarks
One of the most notable landmarks in Niles is the Leaning Tower of Niles, a half-sized replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. It was built in 1934 by industrialist Robert Ilg as part of a recreation park for employees of the Ilg Hot Air Electric Ventilating Company.
Transportation
Niles is served by several major roads, including U.S. Route 14 and Illinois Route 21. Public transportation is provided by the Chicago Transit Authority and Pace Suburban Bus.
