Nrf2 - A protein that controls how certain genes are expressed. These genes protect the cell from damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules produced during normal cell metabolism). Free radicals can play a role in cancer, heart disease, stroke and other diseases of old age. Also called NFE2L2 and Nuclear Factor (erythroid-derived 2) -like 2
