OCA2 gene - gene that produces a protein thought to be involved in the manufacture of melanin (a pigment that gives color to skin, hair and eyes). Mutations (changes) in the OCA2 gene have been found in a hereditary condition called oculocutaneous albinism. People with this condition have very pale skin and light-colored hair and eyes. They also have a high risk of developing skin cancer early on
