Components
Playgrounds often have recreational equipment such as the swing set, slide, jungle gym, chin-up bars, sandbox, spring rider, trapeze rings, playhouses, and mazes, many of which help children develop physical coordination, strength, and flexibility, as well as providing recreation and enjoyment. Common in modern playgrounds are play structures that link many different pieces of equipment.
Safety
Playgrounds are made safe by using soft surface materials such as wood chips or rubber mulch, and providing adequate space for children to run and play. Equipment is designed to be age appropriate to reduce the risk of injury.
