Reid Wiseman

Reid Wiseman is an American NASA astronaut and naval aviator. He was selected as an astronaut in 2009 and flew his first mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2014 as part of Expedition 40/41.

Early Life and Education

Reid Wiseman was born on November 11, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Dulaney High School in Timonium, Maryland, in 1993. Wiseman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1997 and a Master of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2006.

Naval Career

Wiseman was commissioned as an ensign in the United States Navy upon graduation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He earned his Naval Aviator wings in 1999 and was subsequently assigned to fly the F-14 Tomcat and later the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Wiseman served in multiple operational deployments, including missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

NASA Career

In June 2009, Wiseman was selected as a NASA astronaut as part of the 20th astronaut class. After completing his training, he was assigned to the Expedition 40/41 mission to the International Space Station. Wiseman launched aboard Soyuz TMA-13M on May 28, 2014, and spent 165 days in space. During his time on the ISS, he conducted scientific research, performed maintenance tasks, and participated in two spacewalks.

Personal Life

Reid Wiseman is married and has two daughters. He enjoys running, cycling, and spending time with his family.

Awards and Honors

Wiseman has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Air Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the NASA Distinguished Service Medal.
