Richard R. Arnold

Richard R. Arnold is an American astronaut and educator, who has served as a crew member on several NASA missions. Born on November 26, 1963, in Cheverly, Maryland, Arnold has had a distinguished career in both education and space exploration.

Early Life and Education

Arnold was born and raised in Cheverly, Maryland. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1981. He then attended Frostburg State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1985. Arnold later pursued his interest in Marine Science, earning a Master of Science degree in the same from the University of Maryland in 1992.

Career in Education

Before becoming an astronaut, Arnold worked as an Oceanographer at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.. He also served as a teacher in several countries, including Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Romania, under the auspices of the International School Services.

NASA Career

Arnold was selected by NASA in May 2004. During his time with NASA, he has been a part of several missions, including STS-119, which launched in March 2009, and Expedition 55/56, which launched in March 2018. On these missions, Arnold contributed to the construction of the International Space Station and conducted several spacewalks.

Personal Life

Arnold is married and has two children. He enjoys scuba diving, running, and reading in his spare time.
