Rodney Fox

Rodney Fox is a renowned Australian underwater diver, conservationist, and survivor of a great white shark attack. He is best known for his efforts in shark conservation and his contributions to underwater filming.

Early Life

Rodney Fox was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1940. He developed a passion for spearfishing at a young age, which led him to become the South Australian Spear Fishing Champion in 1962.

Shark Attack

On December 8, 1963, while defending his spearfishing title in the waters off Kangaroo Island, Fox was attacked by a great white shark. Despite sustaining severe injuries, he managed to survive the attack. This incident is considered one of the most severe non-fatal shark attacks ever recorded.

Career

Following his recovery, Fox developed a fascination with sharks and dedicated his life to studying and protecting them. He invented the first underwater shark cage, which revolutionized the way humans interact with sharks. He also contributed significantly to the field of underwater filming, providing footage for numerous documentaries and films, including Jaws.

Conservation Efforts
