Sierpc

Sierpc is a town in Poland, located in the Mazovia region. It is the capital of Sierpc County and is situated approximately 125 kilometers northwest of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The town is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and agricultural significance.

History

The history of Sierpc dates back to the 11th century when it was a small settlement. It received city rights in 1322 from the Teutonic Knights. The town has witnessed several historical events, including the Swedish Deluge and the partitions of Poland. During World War II, Sierpc was occupied by the German forces and suffered significant damage.

Geography

Sierpc is located in the northwestern part of the Mazovia region, near the border with Kuyavia-Pomerania. The town is situated on the Wkra River, a tributary of the Vistula River. The surrounding area is characterized by its fertile soil, making it an important agricultural region.
