Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine is an inactivated virus COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products (BIBP), a subsidiary of China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm).

Development and production

The Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The vaccine uses an inactivated virus, a traditional method that involves growing the whole virus in a lab and then killing it. This inactivated virus is then injected into the body to stimulate an immune response without causing the disease.

Efficacy

The Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine has been reported to have an efficacy rate of 79.34% against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections, based on interim results from Phase III trials. The World Health Organization (WHO) has validated the Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use.

Distribution

The Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for use in several countries and regions. It is one of the main vaccines used in China's mass vaccination campaign and has also been distributed to other countries as part of China's vaccine diplomacy.

Side effects

Common side effects of the Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine include pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, and fever. Serious side effects are rare.
