Smartwatch
Smartwatch
A Smartwatch (pronounced: /ˈsmɑːrtwɒtʃ/) is a wearable computing device that closely resembles a wristwatch or other time-keeping device.
Etymology
The term "Smartwatch" is a compound of the words "smart", meaning intelligent or clever, and "watch", referring to the time-keeping device. It was first used in the late 20th century to describe watches that incorporated computing abilities.
Definition
A Smartwatch is a digital watch that is integrated with functionality that goes beyond timekeeping. While offering all the basic features of a traditional watch, a Smartwatch is akin to a wearable computer. It can run mobile apps, play audio tracks, make phone calls, send and receive text messages, and provide fitness tracking and health-oriented capabilities. It can also connect to the internet, either through Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
