Somatorelin

Somatorelin (pronunciation: soh-mah-toh-REH-lin) is a synthetic form of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that is used in medicine to diagnose growth hormone (GH) deficiency and to stimulate GH secretion.

Etymology

The term "Somatorelin" is derived from the Greek words "soma" meaning body and "torelin" which is a synthetic suffix used in pharmacology to denote peptide hormones.

Usage

Somatorelin is used in diagnostic procedures to assess the pituitary gland's ability to secrete growth hormone. It is administered intravenously and the patient's blood is then tested at intervals to measure the level of growth hormone. This can help to determine whether the patient has a growth hormone deficiency.
