Sunrise Calendar
Sunrise Calendar was a popular calendar application for iOS, Android, and web platforms. It was developed by Sunrise Atelier, Inc., a company founded by Pierre Valade and Jeremy Le Van in 2012. The application was designed to integrate with various other services and provide users with a unified view of their schedules.
Features
Sunrise Calendar offered a range of features that made it a favorite among users:
- **Integration with Multiple Services**: Sunrise Calendar could sync with Google Calendar, iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, and other calendar services. It also integrated with third-party apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Evernote.
- **User Interface**: The app was known for its clean and intuitive user interface, which made it easy to navigate and manage events.
- **Event Creation and Management**: Users could create, edit, and delete events with ease. The app also supported recurring events and reminders.
- **Time Zone Support**: Sunrise Calendar automatically adjusted events to the user's current time zone, making it ideal for frequent travelers.
- **Weather Forecasts**: The app provided weather forecasts for the event locations, helping users plan their activities accordingly.
- **Smart Suggestions**: Sunrise Calendar offered smart suggestions for event locations and contacts, streamlining the event creation process.
Acquisition by Microsoft
In February 2015, Microsoft acquired Sunrise Atelier, Inc. for an estimated $100 million. Following the acquisition, Microsoft announced that Sunrise Calendar would be integrated into Microsoft Outlook. The standalone Sunrise Calendar app was eventually discontinued in August 2016, with its features being incorporated into the Outlook app.
Legacy
Despite its discontinuation, Sunrise Calendar left a lasting impact on the design and functionality of modern calendar applications. Many of its innovative features have been adopted by other calendar apps, and its influence can still be seen in the current versions of Microsoft Outlook.
