Suprarenal artery (disambiguation)

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Suprarenal Arteries

The suprarenal arteries, shown in red, supply blood to the adrenal glands.

The Suprarenal Arteries (also known as the Adrenal Arteries) are blood vessels that supply the adrenal glands with oxygenated blood. They are part of the abdominal aorta and are typically divided into three types: the superior, middle, and inferior suprarenal arteries.

Superior Suprarenal Arteries

The Superior Suprarenal Arteries originate from the inferior phrenic arteries. They descend to the adrenal glands, supplying the superior aspect of the glands.

Middle Suprarenal Arteries

The Middle Suprarenal Arteries are direct branches of the abdominal aorta. They are typically smaller than the superior and inferior suprarenal arteries.

Inferior Suprarenal Arteries

The Inferior Suprarenal Arteries arise from the renal arteries. They supply the inferior aspect of the adrenal glands.

Clinical Significance

The suprarenal arteries are crucial for the function of the adrenal glands. Disruption of blood flow through these arteries can lead to adrenal insufficiency, a condition characterized by fatigue, weight loss, and low blood pressure.
