Testosterone isovalerate

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Testosterone Isovalerate is an ester of the primary male sex hormone, testosterone. It is used in the treatment of hypogonadism and other conditions associated with low testosterone levels.

Chemistry

Testosterone isovalerate is a synthetic anabolic steroid and a testosterone ester. Esterification of testosterone is designed to prolong the window of therapeutic effect following administration, allowing for a less frequent injection schedule compared to injections of free (unesterified) steroid. Testosterone itself is considered the most natural and safest anabolic steroid a person can use. The isovalerate ester of testosterone is not as widely used as other esterified variants of testosterone.

Pharmacology

Testosterone isovalerate will provide a sharp spike in testosterone which is then sustained for about 7 days. After that, the levels of testosterone will start to decline slowly. This is a dramatic improvement from standard testosterone, which will often only produce benefits for 24 hours.

Medical Uses

Testosterone isovalerate is used in androgen replacement therapy. It is specifically used to treat males with conditions associated with symptoms of deficiency in the hormone or absence of testosterone produced in the body.

Side Effects

As with all testosterone products, testosterone isovalerate can cause side effects. These may include mood changes, such as anger, anxiety, and depression. Physical side effects may include acne, hair loss, and an increased risk of heart disease.
