Texas Tech University (TTU), also known as Texas Tech, Tech, or TTU, is a public university located in Lubbock, Texas. Established on February 10, 1923, as Texas Technological College, it is the main institution of the four-institution Texas Tech University System. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across its twelve colleges and schools and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity".

History

The proposal for a college in West Texas began in 1916, with the Texas legislature passing a bill in 1923 to establish Texas Technological College. The school opened in 1925 with six buildings and an enrollment of 914 students. It became Texas Tech University in 1969 to reflect the growth in the range and depth of its academic offerings and research pursuits.

Campus

The Texas Tech campus is located in the South Plains region of Texas, in the city of Lubbock. The campus is known for its Spanish Renaissance architecture, expansive plazas, and lush green spaces. The university's most iconic structure is the Administration Building, with its distinctive red tile roof and central bell tower.
