The Seas with Nemo & Friends
The Seas with Nemo & Friends is a popular dark ride attraction located in the Epcot theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The attraction is based on the 2003 Disney-Pixar animated film Finding Nemo and is part of the larger pavilion known as The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion.
History
The attraction opened on January 24, 2007, replacing the original attraction known as The Living Seas, which had been a part of Epcot since 1986. The transformation from The Living Seas to The Seas with Nemo & Friends was part of a broader effort by Disney to integrate more character-driven experiences into their theme parks.
Attraction Experience
The Seas with Nemo & Friends is a dark ride that takes guests on an underwater adventure with characters from Finding Nemo. The ride utilizes Omnimover technology, which allows for continuous loading and a smooth ride experience. Guests board "clamobiles" and are taken through various scenes that combine physical sets, audio-animatronics, and digital projections.
Ride Layout
The journey begins with guests entering the queue area, which is themed to resemble a beach. As they progress, they encounter various interactive elements and educational displays about marine life. Once aboard the clamobiles, guests are "submerged" into the ocean where they join Marlin, Dory, and other characters in search of Nemo.
The ride features several memorable scenes from the film, including the Great Barrier Reef, the East Australian Current, and the Jellyfish forest. The use of advanced projection technology allows animated characters to appear as though they are swimming alongside real marine life in the pavilion's massive aquarium.
Conclusion
The ride concludes with a musical finale featuring the song "In the Big Blue World", where guests see Nemo and his friends safely reunited. After disembarking, guests are encouraged to explore the rest of The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion, which includes a large aquarium and interactive exhibits.
Educational Component
In addition to entertainment, The Seas with Nemo & Friends serves an educational purpose by promoting awareness of marine conservation. The pavilion offers various exhibits and presentations that educate guests about ocean ecosystems, marine biology, and the importance of protecting our seas.
