They are used in the mining industry in a process known as bioleaching, where their ability to dissolve metals from ores is exploited. In the field of biotechnology, enzymes isolated from thermoacidophiles are used in the production of biofuels, and in molecular biology for PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) processes, due to their stability at high temperatures.

Thermoacidophiles are of particular interest in astrobiology for understanding the potential for life in extreme environments on other planets. The study of these organisms provides insights into the limits of life on Earth and the possibility of life existing in similar extreme environments elsewhere in the universe, such as on Mars or the moons of Jupiter and Saturn.
