University of Otago, Christchurch (pronunciation: /ˈoʊtɑːɡoʊ/, /ˈkraɪstʃɜːrtʃ/) is a campus of the University of Otago located in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is one of the four schools of medicine in New Zealand and is affiliated with Christchurch Hospital.

Etymology

The name "Otago" is derived from the Māori word "Otakou", which refers to a settlement on the Otago Peninsula. "Christchurch" is named after the city of Christchurch in Dorset, England.

History

The University of Otago, Christchurch was established in 1972 as a clinical school of the University of Otago. It was initially located in the old Christchurch Hospital building but moved to its current location in 2010.
