This phylum includes two major classes: the Xenoturbellida and the Acoelomorpha, which itself comprises the Acoela and the Nemertodermatida. Xenacoelomorphs are characterized by their simple body plan, lack of a true body cavity (coelom), and a unique nervous system structure. They are predominantly found in marine environments, from shallow waters to the deep sea.
