Yale College is the undergraduate liberal arts college of Yale University. Founded in 1701, it is the original school of the university and the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Yale College is located in New Haven, Connecticut.

History

Yale College was established in 1701 by a group of Congregationalist ministers who sought to establish a college to train clergy and political leaders. The college was originally named the Collegiate School and was located in Saybrook, Connecticut. In 1716, it moved to New Haven and was renamed Yale College in 1718 in honor of Elihu Yale, a benefactor of the institution.

Academics

Yale College offers a wide range of undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences. Students can choose from over 80 majors and have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary studies. The college follows a residential college system, which divides students into smaller communities within the larger university.

Residential Colleges

Yale College is known for its unique residential college system, which was established in the 1930s. There are currently 14 residential colleges, each with its own dining hall, library, and other facilities. The residential colleges provide a supportive community for students and foster a sense of belonging.

Admissions

Yale College is highly selective, with an acceptance rate of around 6%. The admissions process is holistic, considering a variety of factors including academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and personal essays. Student Life

Yale College offers a vibrant student life with numerous student organizations, clubs, and athletic teams. The Yale Daily News, founded in 1878, is the oldest college daily newspaper in the United States.

Notable Alumni

Yale College has produced many notable alumni, including five U.S. Presidents, numerous Supreme Court Justices, and many leaders in business, arts, and sciences. Some of the most prominent alumni include George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton.
