Yale New Haven Hospital

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) is a prominent hospital located in New Haven, Connecticut, United States. It is the primary teaching hospital for Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Nursing.

History

YNHH was founded in 1826 as the General Hospital Society of Connecticut. It was the first hospital in Connecticut and the fourth voluntary hospital in the nation. The hospital became formally affiliated with Yale University in 1913.

Facilities

YNHH includes the 168-bed Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, the 201-bed Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, and the 76-bed Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, making it one of the largest hospitals in the world and the largest in Connecticut. It is an American College of Surgeons designated Level I adult and pediatric trauma center.

Services

YNHH provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary, family-focused care in more than 100 medical specialty areas. It has centers of excellence in such fields as cancer care, cardiology and heart surgery, children's health, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, psychiatry, pulmonology, and urology.

Affiliations

YNHH is part of the Yale New Haven Health System and is affiliated with Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Nursing. It is also a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems and the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Recognition

YNHH has received numerous awards and recognition for its services. It is consistently ranked among the best hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
