Yekaterinburg (Russian: Екатеринбург), formerly known as Sverdlovsk, is the fourth-largest city in Russia and the administrative center of Sverdlovsk Oblast. History

Yekaterinburg was founded on November 18, 1723, by Vasily Tatishchev and Georg Wilhelm de Gennin as a metallurgical factory.
