Eminence (/ɪˈmɪnəns/) is a term used in various fields of medicine to denote a projection or protrusion from a bone or tissue surface. The term is derived from the Latin word "eminens", meaning "projecting" or "outstanding".

Anatomy

In anatomy, an eminence refers to a part of a bone that sticks out. For example, the dorsal intercondylar eminence is a bony protrusion on the upper surface of the tibia in the knee joint. Similarly, the pyramidal eminence is a bony projection in the middle ear.
