Exposure Notification
Exposure Notification
Exposure Notification (pronunciation: /ɪkˈspoʊʒər ˌnoʊtɪfɪˈkeɪʃən/) is a digital service that informs individuals when they may have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for a contagious disease, such as COVID-19.
Etymology
The term "Exposure Notification" is derived from the words "exposure," which refers to the state of being exposed to something, and "notification," which refers to the act of notifying or being notified. In this context, it refers to the act of notifying individuals when they have been exposed to a contagious disease.
Function
Exposure Notification systems use Bluetooth technology to exchange random codes with nearby devices. When a person tests positive for a contagious disease, they can choose to share their diagnosis with the Exposure Notification system. The system then sends out notifications to all devices that have exchanged codes with the infected person's device in the past 14 days, informing them of their potential exposure.
