Muscle fatigue (pronunciation: /ˈmʌsəl fəˈti:g/) is a condition characterized by a decrease in the ability of a muscle to generate force. It can be a result of vigorous exercise but abnormal fatigue may be caused by barriers to or interference with the different stages of muscle contraction.

The term "muscle fatigue" comes from the Latin musculus meaning "little mouse" and the Old French fatigue meaning "tire".
