Negotiation

Negotiation (/nɪˌɡoʊʃiˈeɪʃən/) is a dialogue between two or more people or parties, intended to reach an understanding, resolve points of difference, or gain advantage in outcome of dialogue, to produce an agreement upon courses of action, to bargain for individual or collective advantage, or to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests.

Etymology

The term "negotiation" originates from the Latin expression, negotiatus, past participle of negotiari which means "to carry on business". Negotium means "not leisure", which gives insight into the purposeful and serious nature of negotiation.
