Quantum Healing

Quantum Healing (/ˈkwɒntəm ˈhiːlɪŋ/) is a form of alternative medicine that employs a theoretical quantum level to heal the body. The term was coined by Deepak Chopra, a prominent figure in the New Age movement, in his 1989 book, "Quantum Healing: Exploring the Frontiers of Mind/Body Medicine".

Etymology

The term "Quantum Healing" is derived from the Latin "quantus", meaning "how great", and the Old English "hælan", meaning "to make whole". It refers to the use of quantum theory in a healing context.

Concept

Quantum Healing is based on the principle that the body has a natural ability to heal itself at a quantum, or atomic, level. It suggests that health and wellness are influenced by subtle energies that can be manipulated through various techniques such as meditation, mindfulness, and positive thinking.

Related Terms

  • Quantum Mechanics: The branch of physics dealing with the behavior of particles at the quantum level.
  • Alternative Medicine: Practices claimed to have the healing effects of medicine but are not based on evidence gathered using the scientific method.
  • Deepak Chopra: An Indian-American author and alternative-medicine advocate.
  • New Age: A broad movement characterized by alternative approaches to traditional Western culture, with an interest in spirituality, mysticism, holism, and environmentalism.

Criticism

Quantum Healing has been criticized by the scientific community for its lack of empirical evidence and its misuse of terms and concepts from quantum physics. Critics argue that the principles of quantum mechanics do not apply to biological systems in the way that proponents of Quantum Healing suggest.
