Somatrem

Somatrem (pronunciation: so-MAT-rem) is a recombinant DNA derived form of human growth hormone (hGH) that is used to treat growth hormone deficiency in children and adults.

Etymology

The term "Somatrem" is derived from the Greek word "soma", meaning body, and "trem", which is an abbreviation of "treatment". Thus, the term can be interpreted as "body treatment".

Usage

Somatrem is used to treat growth hormone deficiency (GHD), a condition where the pituitary gland does not produce enough growth hormone. This can lead to short stature, delayed growth, and other health problems. Somatrem works by stimulating the growth of bones and muscles, helping to increase height and improve overall growth.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Somatrem can cause side effects. These may include joint pain, muscle pain, fluid retention, and carpal tunnel syndrome. In rare cases, it can cause serious side effects such as diabetes and leukemia.
