Velveeta (/vɛlˈviːtə/) is a brand of processed cheese product that has a smoother and softer texture than natural cheese. It was first made in 1918 by the Monroe Cheese Company in Monroe, New York, and is currently produced by Kraft Foods.

Etymology

The name "Velveeta" was intended to connote a velvety smooth edible product. The term is a portmanteau of the words "velvet" and "eata", the latter being a playful spelling of "eat".

Description
