Walter Willett

Walter Willett (pronunciation: /ˈwɔːltər ˈwɪlɪt/) is an American epidemiologist and nutritionist, and the Fredrick John Stare Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Etymology

The name "Walter" is of Old German origin, meaning "ruler of the army", while "Willett" is of English origin, meaning "little Will".

Career

Willett is known for his work on dietary patterns and health outcomes, where he has published many articles and books. He has also served as chair of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health for 25 years.

Research

Willett's research primarily focuses on the effects of diet on the occurrence of major diseases. He has led studies on diet and cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases. He has also developed the "Alternative Healthy Eating Index", which is used to evaluate the quality of a person's diet.
