Etymology

The name "Wenzhou" is derived from the city's location in the southeastern coast of China, in Zhejiang province. The term "Medical University" signifies the institution's primary focus on medical and health sciences education.

History

Wenzhou Medical University was established in 1912 as the Zhejiang Specialized Medical School. In 1958, it was renamed as Wenzhou Medical College. The institution was upgraded to a university in 2013 and took its current name, Wenzhou Medical University.
