The American League Central is one of the six divisions in Major League Baseball (MLB). It is part of the American League (AL) and was established in 1994 when the league expanded from two divisions to three. The division is composed of five teams located in the central United States.
History
The creation of the American League Central was part of a broader realignment in MLB that aimed to create more balanced divisions and improve the overall competitive structure of the league. Prior to 1994, the American League was divided into the East and West divisions. The addition of the Central division allowed for a more geographically logical grouping of teams.
