Plot summary
The story begins with Matthew Cuthbert driving to the train station to pick up an orphan boy. Instead, he finds Anne Shirley, a talkative and imaginative girl. Despite the initial shock, Matthew decides to take her home. Marilla Cuthbert is initially displeased but agrees to let Anne stay temporarily. Over time, Anne's charm and spirit win over the Cuthberts and the townspeople.
Anne's adventures include her rivalry with Gilbert Blythe, her friendship with Diana Barry, and her academic achievements. The novel explores themes of family, friendship, and the importance of imagination.
