Brian P. Monahan

Brian P. Monahan (pronunciation: /ˈbraɪən ˈpiː məˈnæhən/) is an American physician and hematologist who is currently serving as the Attending Physician of the United States Congress.

Etymology

The name Brian is of Celtic origin and means "high" or "noble". The middle initial P stands for Patrick, a name of Latin origin meaning "nobleman". Monahan is an Irish surname meaning "monk".

Early Life and Education

Brian P. Monahan was born and raised in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, and later attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he earned his medical degree.

Career

Monahan completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then served as a staff Hematologist and Oncologist at the National Naval Medical Center and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In 2009, he was appointed as the Attending Physician of the United States Congress, a position he still holds today.
