Ezlopitant

Ezlopitant (pronunciation: /ɛzˈlɒpɪtænt/) is a neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist used in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).

Etymology

The term "Ezlopitant" is derived from the chemical name of the drug, which is (2S,3S)-2-phenyl-3-[[(3R)-1-piperidinylmethyl]amino]-2-quinuclidinecarboxylic acid 1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3-yl ester. The "-pitant" suffix is common among neurokinin 1 receptor antagonists.

Usage

Ezlopitant is used in the prevention and treatment of CINV, a common side effect of chemotherapy. It works by blocking the action of substance P, a neurotransmitter involved in the vomiting reflex.
