FLT4
FLT4 or Fms related tyrosine kinase 4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FLT4 gene. It is also known as vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3).
Function
The FLT4 gene encodes a tyrosine kinase receptor for vascular endothelial growth factors C and D. The protein is thought to be involved in lymphangiogenesis and maintenance of the lymphatic endothelium. It is expressed in endothelial cells, particularly those of the lymphatic vessels.
Clinical significance
Mutations in this gene have been associated with lymphedema-distichiasis syndrome (LDS) and cancer. In cancer, FLT4 is often overexpressed and its inhibition can reduce tumor growth and spread.
Structure
The FLT4 protein is a single-pass type I membrane protein. It contains seven immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains and a protein kinase domain.
Interactions
FLT4 has been shown to interact with VEGFC.
