Garcinia prainiana, commonly known as the button mangosteen, is a species of flowering plant in the family Clusiaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Description

Garcinia prainiana is a small to medium-sized tree that can grow up to 15 meters in height. The leaves are evergreen, simple, and arranged oppositely. The flowers are small, with a yellowish-green hue, and are typically unisexual. The fruit is round, orange to reddish in color, and has a sweet-sour taste. The seeds are embedded in the pulp of the fruit.

Habitat

This species thrives in tropical climates and is commonly found in lowland rainforests. It prefers well-drained soils and can often be found near riverbanks and in secondary forests.

Uses

The fruit of Garcinia prainiana is edible and is often consumed fresh. It is also used in traditional medicine for its purported health benefits. The wood of the tree is sometimes used in carpentry and for making small tools.

Cultivation
