Johnson County, Georgia is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 9,980. The county seat is Wrightsville. Johnson County is part of the Dublin Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Johnson County was created by the Georgia General Assembly on December 11, 1858, from portions of Emanuel, Laurens, and Washington counties. It was named in honor of Herschel V. Johnson, who was the Governor of Georgia from 1853 to 1857 and a U.S. Senator.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 307 square miles, of which 303 square miles is land and 4.2 square miles (1.4%) is water. The majority of Johnson County is located in the Oconee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin.
