Manila (məˈnɪlə)

Manila (pronounced məˈnɪlə) is the capital city of the Philippines. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and vibrant nightlife.

Etymology

The term "Manila" is believed to have been derived from the phrase "may nilad," which in Tagalog language means "where nilad is found." Nilad is a type of shrub that used to grow abundantly along the banks of the Pasig River which flows through the city.
