Miltonduff distillery

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Miltonduff Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Elgin, Moray, Scotland. It is currently owned by Pernod Ricard, a French company that is one of the world's largest producers of spirits.

History

The Miltonduff Distillery was established in 1824 by Robert Bain and Andrew Peary, shortly after the Excise Act of 1823 legalized distilling in Scotland. The distillery was named after the Duff family, who were influential landowners in the area.

In 1866, the distillery was purchased by William Stuart, who modernized the facilities and increased production. The distillery changed hands several times over the next century, eventually being acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005.

Production

The Miltonduff Distillery uses traditional pot stills for distillation. The water used in the production process is sourced from the Black Burn, a local stream. The distillery has a production capacity of approximately 5.8 million liters of spirit per year.

The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Miltonduff 12 Year Old and the Miltonduff 15 Year Old. These whiskies are known for their rich, fruity flavor profile and smooth finish.

In popular culture

The Miltonduff Distillery has been featured in several television programs and films, including the BBC series Scotch! The Story of Whisky and the documentary The Water of Life - A Whisky Film.
