NCAA Division III is a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. It is the largest of the NCAA's three divisions, with over 450 member institutions. Division III schools are characterized by their emphasis on the overall college experience of the student-athlete, rather than on athletic competition.

Philosophy

Division III places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of a student's academic programs. It seeks to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete's athletic activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete's educational experience.

Athletics

In Division III, the athletic programs are designed to be an integral part of the institution's educational mission. Student-athletes do not receive athletic scholarships, which distinguishes Division III from Division I and Division II. Instead, financial aid is awarded based on academic achievement or financial need.

Competition

Division III schools compete in a wide range of sports, including football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, track and field, and many others. The division hosts national championships in 28 different sports.

Academics

Division III schools emphasize the importance of balancing athletics with academics. Student-athletes are encouraged to pursue their academic interests and are provided with the resources to succeed in both areas. The division promotes a well-rounded college experience that includes rigorous academics, competitive athletics, and extracurricular activities.

Membership

Division III is the largest NCAA division, with over 450 member institutions. These schools are located across the United States and vary widely in size and academic focus. Many Division III schools are private institutions, but there are also a significant number of public universities.
