History
The New York Jets were established in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League (AFL). The team was founded by Harry Wismer and began play in 1960. In 1963, the franchise was sold to Sonny Werblin, who renamed the team the New York Jets.
The Jets are perhaps best known for their victory in Super Bowl III, where they defeated the Baltimore Colts 16-7. This victory was notable for the guarantee made by Jets quarterback Joe Namath, who famously predicted the upset win.
