Painkiller (cocktail)
Painkiller (cocktail)
The Painkiller is a popular tropical cocktail that originated in the British Virgin Islands. It is known for its smooth, fruity flavor and is often associated with beach vacations and island getaways. The cocktail is traditionally made with Pusser's Rum, which is a key ingredient that gives the drink its distinctive taste.
Ingredients
The classic Painkiller cocktail is made with the following ingredients:
- 2 oz Pusser's Rum
- 4 oz pineapple juice
- 1 oz orange juice
- 1 oz cream of coconut
- Nutmeg for garnish
Preparation
To prepare a Painkiller cocktail, follow these steps:
1. Combine the Pusser's Rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cream of coconut in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. 2. Shake well until the mixture is chilled. 3. Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice. 4. Garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top. 5. Serve with a straw and enjoy.
History
The Painkiller cocktail was created in the 1970s at the Soggy Dollar Bar, located on the island of Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. The bar is named "Soggy Dollar" because patrons would swim to the bar from their boats, getting their money wet in the process. The Painkiller quickly became the signature drink of the bar and gained popularity among tourists and locals alike.
Variations
While the traditional Painkiller uses Pusser's Rum, variations of the cocktail may use different types of rum or adjust the proportions of the ingredients to suit personal taste. Some variations include adding a splash of lime juice or using a different type of coconut cream.
