Pegademase Bovine

Pegademase bovine (pronunciation: peh-gah-deh-mase boh-vine) is a medicinal drug used in the treatment of adenosine deaminase deficiency (ADA deficiency), a rare genetic disorder that damages the immune system and causes severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID).

Etymology

The term "Pegademase bovine" is derived from the words "pegylated", "adenosine deaminase", and "bovine". "Pegylated" refers to the process of attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) to the molecule, "adenosine deaminase" is an enzyme that is deficient in ADA deficiency, and "bovine" indicates that the enzyme is derived from cows.

Usage

Pegademase bovine is used to replace the missing or deficient adenosine deaminase enzyme in patients with ADA deficiency. This helps to restore the function of the immune system and reduce the risk of severe infections.
