Plectin
Plectin is a versatile protein that plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and resilience of cells. Structure
Plectin is a member of the plakin family of proteins, which are characterized by their large size and complex structure. The N-terminal domain of plectin is involved in binding to intermediate filaments, while the C-terminal domain is responsible for binding to actin filaments and microtubules.
Function

These include Epidermolysis bullosa simplex with muscular dystrophy, a condition characterized by fragile skin and muscle weakness, and Ogna type epidermolysis bullosa simplex, a rare form of the disease that also involves changes in the nails and teeth.
Research
Research into plectin has provided valuable insights into the structure and function of the cytoskeleton, and has potential implications for the treatment of diseases caused by defects in this system. In addition, plectin has been identified as a potential target for cancer therapy, as it is overexpressed in several types of cancer and appears to play a role in tumor progression.
